The 7th Conference of Mayors for the core areas of the Huaihai Economic Zone kicked off in Lianyungang on Tuesday. Leaders from the National Development and Reform Commission and eight cities in Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui provinces gathered to discuss regional development plans at the conference that was themed on the country’s Belt and Road Initiative and the promotion of interconnectivity for trans-regional collaborated development. The participants noted that the Huaihai Economic Zone is located in the bridgehead area of the eastern part of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge with its chess eye position in the national productivity layout and important economic geographical location. In the future, the Huaihai Economic Zone will implement all-round cooperation for the promotion of a modern integrated transportation system that is both international and domestic with out-reaching access to all directions for the sake of convenience and efficiency. Greater efforts will be made to strengthen trans-regional customs clearance for the facilitation of investment and trade. The cities in the economic zone will also seize the country’s Belt and Road Initiative to create an economic corridor along the eastern part of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge which will serve as the major driving force and an important platform for the regional cities.
