A total of 45 villages across 13 districts and cities of Jiangsu province have been listed as the first batch of the province’s characteristic idyllic village pilot.
The pilot work, a major decision of representatives of the province, will be conducted between 2017 and 2018, and the in-depth construction will be promoted from 2018 to 2020.
Han Dongqing, dean of the School of Architecture at Southeast University (SEU-ARCH), said it was necessary to conscientiously protect villages’ traditional texture and layout during the pilot construction, as well as focus on the natural upgrading and progressive renovation, and avoid the complete demolition and reconstruction. He added it was also important to protect the decoration at a whole village, and showcase the villages’ original pastoral landscape, rural charm and historical texture.
“It is imperative to quickly make up for villages’ weak point in infrastructure construction, build a complete public service system, constantly improve rural living environment and quality, and allow residents in rural and urban areas to enjoy the same modern life,” he said.
Moreover, the piloting villages will be designed to boost their most characteristic industries in order to allow farmers to benefit from each section of the whole agricultural industry chain.
