The annual fishing ban in the offshore waters of Jiangsu has been partially lifted, boosting the supply of seafood to the market.
The Lvsi fishing port in Qidong County saw the hustle and bustle of the fishermen sorting out the fresh swimming crabs, heralding the success of the first catch following the end of the summer fishing ban.
The fresh swimming crabs will be sorted, classified and refrigerated before they are transported to big cities to cater to the demands of the seafood lovers.
The first two fishing vessels that called at the port were loaded with some 20000 kilograms of fresh seafood such as crabs, shrimps, yellow croakers, pomfrets and abalones.
The partially lifted fishing ban is available to trawling and gillnetting fishing vessels. The entire fishing ban won’t be lifted until September 16 when the prices of seafood will dip further.
