An increasingly large number of readers’ clubs in Jiangsu province have catered to the diversified demands of the readers.

The Zhongguan readers’ club in Nantong city, for example, has been organizing weekly events to benefit the reading fans.

Yuan Weidong, founder of the reading club, is a reading enthusiast who has been running his brick-and-mortar bookstore for 20 years.

No more than a dozen book enthusiasts joined Yuan’s readers’ club when it was founded three years ago.

Undaunted, Yuan has kept on shelving new books every day and organized small-sized book sharing events once a week and large ones once a month, attracting more and more book worms over the three years.

Yuan’s readers’ club has increased its members to more than 300 with 80 reading sharing activities organized so far in the three-year period.

Some 20 readers’ clubs have been launched in Nantong city in addition to more than 100 readers’ interest groups. The members range from primary and secondary school students, employees to business elites and corporate blue-collars.

Readers’ groups have found a widespread presence in Jiangsu. Zhenjiang city, for example, has registered more than 120 readers’ groups with more than 200000 members taking part in routine activities all the year round.
