Li Qiang, chief of the standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and top legislator of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, delivered an important speech at the 6th plenary meeting of the 12th session of the Provincial People's Congress that concluded last Saturday (July 29th) at the Jiangsu Grand Theater amidst the playing of the national anthem.
Wu Zhenglong was elected governor of Jiangsu at the plenary meeting on Saturday.
The presiding chairpersons of the plenary meeting were Li Qiang, Shi Heping, Gong Pixiang, Xu Zongzi，Zhao Peng, Liu Yongzhong, Xing Chunning， all permanent chairpersons of the standing committee of the Provincial People’s Congress.
In a by-election during the plenary meeting, Wang Lin, Qin Jing’an and Cao Yuanjian were elected members of the standing committee of the Provincial People’s Congress.
The presidium of the 12th session of the Provincial People's Congress also held its fourth meeting to be briefed on the election results by the chief scrutiteer so as to confirm the validity of the election.
In the presence of all the deputies to the Provincial People’s Congress, Wu Zhenglong took an oath of office as governor of Jiangsu, swearing to uphold the Constitution. Wu was appointed Party chief of Nanjing and deputy Party chief of Jiangsu province in September 2016. He was named acting governor of Jiangsu in May 2017 to succeed Shi Taifeng, who has been promoted to be chief of the CPC committee of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The three newly-elected members of the standing committee of the Provincial People’s Congress also took the oath of office, swearing to uphold the Constitution.
During his inaugural address, Governor Wu expressed his heartfelt thanks to the trust and confidence placed in him by all the deputies to the Provincial People’s Congress, adding that he will bear in mind his mission and carry out his duties with dedication to devote his entire mental and physical efforts to the development of Jiangsu and the well-being of the Jiangsu people.
Wu also pledged to live up to the trust placed in him by the central government and measure up to the expectations of the deputies and the Jiangsu people.
Under the strong leadership of the provincial CPC committee and the provincial government, Jiangsu has stepped onto a new starting point to thoroughly implement the gist of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches and his new concepts, new thoughts and new strategies on the governance of China, Wu Zhenglong said.
The Governor noted that he considers it a glorious mission and heavy responsibility to be elected the governor at such a crucial time.
He concluded his address by pledging to roll up his sleeves to work harder alongside with the people of Jiangsu under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core and the leadership of the CPC Provincial Committee to compose the Jiangsu chapter for the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and greet the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with outstanding performances.
In his speech delivered before the conclusion of the plenary meeting, Li Qiang remarked that through the concerted efforts of all the deputies the 6th plenary meeting of the 12th session of the Provincial People's Congress has fulfilled all the scheduled agenda, which is instrumental for strengthening the construction of the province’s state organs and developing Jiangsu into a more powerful, prosperous, beautiful and civilized province.
The CPC Provincial Committee chief remarked that since the start of this year Jiangsu has registered steady economic growth and social harmony and stability and made new progresses and fresh achievements in every aspect through the concerted efforts featuring pioneering and enterprising spirits by adhering to the targets set forth early this year at the 5th session of the Provincial People’s Congress and thoroughly implementing the gist of the CPC Provincial Committee’s 13th Congress.
He called on the province to study and implement the gist of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches, stick to the keynote work guidelines of making progress while ensuring stability and consciously practice new development concepts to ensure completion of the annual tasks.
Li demanded that the deputies, who represent the people, should get themselves rooted in the relationship with the people and serve the people wholeheartedly.
The provincial CPC chief hoped that all the deputies should cherish the trust and confidence placed in them by the people, live up to the expectations of the people and undertake the sacred missions entrusted by the Constitution and the laws so as to contribute their wisdom and energies to developing Jiangsu into a more powerful, prosperous, beautiful and civilized province.
Li Qiang concluded his speech by calling on all the deputies to "be more closely united around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core and greet the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with outstanding performances by making concerted efforts featuring pioneering and enterprising spirits and work in a down-to-earth manner to keep forging ahead in the province’s reform and development.
