At present, the admissions process for colleges around China is underway.
The Agricultural College of Yangzhou University is trying to be different. The office sent carefully selected scientific research seeds along with the acceptance letter to freshmen.
Different from common market varieties, these seeds are for experiments, including eight kinds of crop, such as castor, corn, rice, barley, rape, wheat, cotton and sorghum. Those selected seeds could add a sense of surprise to the receivers.
A professor at the college said that each freshman can voluntarily grow the seeds and record their growth and development process in various forms, like writing, photography or painting. At orientation, freshman can use this to participate in the evaluation test, and the first 20 people can get the opening ceremony gift pack.
"Before entering our college, most of the new students were not familiar with the knowledge of crops, so we let them have a preliminary understanding of the future studies. Within the cultivating process, they can feel the beauty of agriculture,” said Wang Yifan, a teacher with the college.
