The first renewable resources exchange supermarket in Yangzhou opened at Huanggong Community of Guangling District. Here, garbage can be converted into currency, which can then be used to buy other daily necessities such as vegetables.
Ms Huang carries a large bag of clothes to the renewable resources exchange supermarket. She hasn’t used them for a long time but doesn’t want to simply discard them. Now she has finally found a suitable place for them. According to Xu Feng, manager of the supermarket, old articles can be recycled here as per the market prices, and will be resold to local residents at a very low price.

A credits exchange table is put on a wall of the store, which states clearly the exchangeable waste, old or idle items such as books, used household appliances and furniture. They can be converted into different numbers of credits, and can be exchanged for any relevant commodities with equivalent credits.
Though still in a trial operation, the exchange market has become extraordinarily popular. More than 190 loyalty cards have been issued.
