Jiangsu records surging retail sales during Labor Day holiday

During the Labor Day holiday which ended on May 5th , East China’s Jiangsu province reported market sales of approximately 8.036 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 61.7%. JSBC has the story.

A restaurant by the Qinhuai River in Nanjing saw fewer customers on Wednesday, the last day of the Labor Day holiday but things were quite different in the previous days.

During the Labor Day holiday, many unique restaurants and eateries in Nanjing went viral among the tourists.

By offering different sets of special dishes, this restaurant in Nanjing attracted more than 600 diners every day during the five-day holiday. Tables by the Qinhuai River are much sought-after.

 In Jinhu County, online and offline sales of crayfish reached 2.5 million kilograms with the sales volume surging to more than 30 million yuan, attracting diners from Anhui and Shanghai.

According to preliminary statistics, Jiangsu reported 6 billion yuan in total catering and retail sales during the five-day Labor Day holiday, with a daily average growth of 14.6% over the same period in 2019.

During the Labor Day holiday, 13 movies were premiered across the province, setting a new record.

The province reported 140 million yuan of box office during the first four days of May, statistics from the provincial movie authority show.

Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s stylish, snowy spy thriller Cliff Walkers garnered the biggest box office.
