East China’s Jiangsu province will accelerate the construction of a modern water network, promote system governance and protection, and build rivers and lakes that can benefit the people, according to the provincial water conservancy work conference held on Monday.
In 2020, Jiangsu invested 13 billion yuan in key projects, completed 596 environmental improvement projects along the Yangtze River by vacating and restoring 47 kilometers of shorelines to the original shape.
In 2021, Jiangsu will speed up the construction of major projects and the reinforcement of engineering projects, complete the Xinmeng River treatment project in the Taihu Lake Basin, and promote the treatment of the Jiangsu section of the Taihu Lake Dike and the key plains and low-lying land in the Huaihe River Basin.
Efforts will be made to improve the water quality in the rural areas by installing 2000 kilometers of water supply pipelines.
Work will be done to create jobs for the former fishermen around the Hongze Lake.
In the meantime, trans-regional rivers will be cleaned and dredged to improve the water environment for the rural people.
