East Chinas Jiangsu province has gone all out to battle floods in the Yangtze River basin by strengthening monitoring and early warning, making analysis, research and judgment, coordinating water conservancy projects and building a safe line of defense against the floods.

47 water conservancy monitoring sites in 34 rivers and lakes reported above-danger water levels on Thursday, according to the provincial headquarters for flood control.

The level II emergency response system is maintained in the Yangtze River and the Taihu Lake.

The sluices at Taipu River and Wangting Hub were working in full gear to discharge the floods at 1300 cubic meters per second.

The water level in the Taihu Lake was measured at 4.74 meters, 9 centimeters higher than the warning mark.

With the first flood entering the Hongze Lake, the water level at Xuyi monitoring station was measured at 15.30 meters, 7 centimeters above the warning line on Thursday. The Jiangba monitoring station reported a water level of 12.9 meters, 4 centimeters above the warning mark.

Jiangsu upgraded the emergency response system in the Huaihe River to level three on Thursday as the region is expecting rising water levels due to incessant rainfall in the coming days.
