As the tunnel shield machine slowly came out of the tunnel hole last morning (June 12), the tunnel excavation of the section from Xingbojie Station to Xinggangjie Station (right line) on Suzhou Rail Transit (SRT) Line 5 wound up successfully, which marks the end of the tunnel opening work for SRT Line 5.

SRT Line 5 is the first rail transport line within Jiangsu Province to have introduced the Automatic Train Operation System. The first SRT Line 5 train was delivered to Suzhou in April this year.

Just look at its impressive color. Do you look forward to a ride on it?

Starting at Taihu Xiangshan Station (太湖香山站) in Wuzhong District, SRT Line 5 passes through Wuzhong District, SND, Gusu District, SIP and stops at Yangchenghu South Station (阳澄湖南站) in SIP.

SRT Line 5 measures 44.1 kilometers in length and has 34 stations in total, including 33 under the ground and one above the ground. The Laodonglu Station (劳动路站) is 31 meters under the ground, which makes it the deepest rail transit station in Suzhou and the city’s first underground rail station with four floors.
Moreover, SRT Line 5 will also see the completion of such milestones as track and electric cable construction this year. After going into operation, it will further ease the traffic congestion in central urban area, strengthen the connection between the east side and the west side of the Jinji Lake, facilitate the tourist transport around the Taihu Lake and optimize the deployment of Suzhou Rail Transit system.

The construction of SRT Line 5 kicked off on June 28, 2016. According to the plan, the trial run of this line is scheduled for June, 2021.
