East China’s Jiangsu province has unveiled a new regulation on the protection of wildlife, the provincial legislature said on Tuesday.

Jiangsu has witnessed the existence of wildlife on 2.48 million occasions.

Since the start of this year, Jiangsu has implemented the relevant laws and regulations of the National People's Congress and stepped up efforts to combat crimes against wildlife by investigating 392 criminal cases and seizing 9600 wild animals.

A province-wide campaign has been launched to investigate artificial breeding farms for edible wild animals.

Non-edible wild animals are found in 79 of the 653 registered and licensed breeding farms.

The province has a population of 92629 wild animals in total.

Wildlife protection has been strengthened in Jiangsu in recent years. On June 1, the city's newly adopted regulation on wildlife protection took effect, introducing stricter and more concrete measures to protect the environment and wildlife.

According to the new regulation, Jiangsu will formulate a protection plan for wild animals and their habitats, compile a list of key wildlife habitats, and conduct a once-every-five-year survey on wildlife.

Aiming at key areas such as rare and endangered species, key biological groups, and the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River, a supplementary survey will be conducted to improve the biodiversity database and build a comprehensive wildlife protection system in Jiangsu.
