Farmers in east China’s Jiangsu province have been kept busy with agricultural production against the recent spell of cold weather. Let’s take a close look.

In the silkworm room of Xinfeng Village in Hai'an High tech Zone, silkworms are spinning silk and forming cocoons. The first batch of winter factory feed silkworms successfully cocooned under the careful management of the sericulture farmers. At present, the quality and yield of silkworm cocoons are slightly better than traditional aquaculture models.

“The quality of silkworm cocoons this winter is relatively good, with an estimated yield of 40 to 45 kilograms,” said Rong Shumei, Head of Xinfeng Family Farm in Hai'an High-tech Zone.

“We have upgraded and renovated the silkworm room to maintain suitable temperature and humidity for silkworms in winter, and this model can be promoted,” said Wang Jun, Director and Promotion Researcher of Hai'an Sericulture Technology Promotion Station.

The winter trial of raising silkworms was successful, with silkworms eating feed instead of mulberry leaves. They can be raised every day throughout the year, opening up a new model of sericulture and achieving a win-win situation for both the company and farmers.

At present, the local government has built a silkworm rearing workshop covering an area of over 2000 square meters, and plans to promote 100 sericulture households next year and 10 thousand households within three years.

Daixi Village in Wujin District, Changzhou is experiencing a bountiful harvest of green fish. Nanyuan Family Farm, the largest green fish breeding base in Luoyang Town, has harvested over 100 thousand kilograms of green fish this year. Daixi Village raises 1000 acres of green fish with an annual output of 1 million kilograms.

Liangzhai Town in Feng County, Xuzhou is experiencing the harvest of greenhouse garlic sprouts. Starting from the end of November, garlic sprout agents have been running around the farmland in Liangzhai Town to purchase garlic sprouts.

“We have provided a one-stop service, from organizing garlic sprout digging workers to ensuring sales, and once the garlic sprouts are dug, they are delivered to the purchasing point for cash settlement,” said Hu Guanglu, Garlic Sprout Purchase Agent in Liangzhai Town, Feng County, Xuzhou.

The garlic sprouts planted in Liangzhai Town, Feng County are mainly stem garlic varieties. Through dense planting and greenhouse cultivation, the time difference is reduced to seize the market. Shiqiao Village alone grows nearly a thousand mu of greenhouse garlic sprouts.
