The Pingchao town of Nantong city has made unremitting efforts to improve people’s livelihood by giving it a facelift.
The Pingchao Agricultural Market records a peak daily customer flow of nearly 14 thousand people. Nowadays, when entering the market, we can see spacious and bright channels with clear functional zoning.
However, before this year's renovation, mobile vendors gathered here, surrounded by flowing sewage, making the market more congested during peak hours.
The transformation of the farm market is one of the five key projects for comprehensive urban environmental improvement in Pingchao. The local government has invested 2.1 million yuan to comprehensively renovate the interior of the market by pouring 4300 square meters of cement into the site and completing the laying of the entire drainage pipeline to implement closed management.
Pingchao Town is the northern bridgehead of the Shanghai-Nantong-Suzhou Yangtze River Bridge and the site of Nantong West Station, a high-speed rail hub. The comprehensive three-dimensional transportation system is becoming increasingly perfect, making it more important for urban roads to be expanded.
Due to the congesting roads during holidays, the local government has built 263 parking spaces in a bid to alleviate the difficulty of parking.
“Finding a place to park cars is also much more convenient for ourselves,” said Ni Tingting, Resident of Pingchao Town, Tongzhou District.
“We have improved the greenery on both sides of the road, painted the old residential quarters, revitalizing the city's image and appearance and making it more convenient for people to travel,” said Xu Baoming, Deputy General Manager of Nantong Haitong Urban Development Co., Ltd.
The renovation has made main roads in Pingchao Town clean and tidy. The once overgrown and cluttered road triangle has transformed into pocket parks for people to relax and take walks, giving the city a completely new look.
