Since the reform and opening-up, especially since the beginning of the new era, Jiangsu has placed more emphasis on protecting the ecological environment, promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and accelerating the construction of a modern harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
The Yanziji Sub-district in the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River has shut down more than 400 enterprises of various types in a bid to promote ecological environment restoration, urban organic renewal, and industrial transformation and upgrading.
Along the entire Yangtze River, various regions in Jiangsu have strengthened their awareness of ecological protection, shutting down more than 3500 chemical enterprises along the river, restoring the ecological environment to 64.1% of the coastline.
As the province with the highest population density, the lowest per capita resources, and the smallest per capita environmental capacity in the country, Jiangsu has firmly adhered to the bottom line of ecological environment quality, and coordinated the promotion of high-quality development and high-level protection from the establishment of the development concept of environmental protection in the early stages of reform and opening up to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Jiangsu has revised 14 local laws and regulations in ecological environment, making the modern environmental governance system more secure.
The province has also taken the lead in the country in conducting a biodiversity background survey that has recorded a total of 6903 species, including pufferfish, oriental white stork, and Chinese tiger butterfly.
“We have transformed Changdang Lake from a production-oriented lake to an ecological lake, which has initially met the requirements of an ecological lake. In the future, we will also promote symbiotic lakes to achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature,” said Ma Dan, Director of the Ecological Environment Bureau of Jintan District.
Jiangsu has accelerated the transformation and upgrading, implemented the "1+3" key functional area strategy, brought into shape a more scientific and reasonable regional productivity layout, promoted the optimization layout and green transformation of the chemical, steel, coal and electricity industry, and promoted the safe and efficient utilization of clean and low-carbon energy.
On the other hand, Jiangsu is dedicated to serving the overall development situation by introducing "23 policies" to protect enterprise property rights, and using mandatory measures with caution in accordance with the law so as to ensure that the entrepreneurs can seek development with peace of mind.
“Since the closure of Dongsha Chemical Industry Zone, we have utilized the over 2700 mu of the vacated land to continuously attract new talents and gradually formed an intelligent manufacturing industrial park covering green buildings, equipment manufacturing, and new material research and development. The park’s total output value is expected to reach 6 billion yuan by the end of 2023,” said Xu Jin, Deputy Mayor of Nanfeng Town, Zhangjiagang City.
