The National Forestry and Grassland Administration said that the autumn migration of migratory birds in China has basically ended, and the protection and monitoring of wintering areas are being carried out.
The Major Snow solar term has led to a sharp drop of temperature in most parts of China, but migratory birds have basically arrived in wintering areas, completing their autumn migration, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said.
In terms of wintering grounds, sandpipers are found in the eastern coastal wetlands south of Bohai Bay, ducks are found in the inland wetlands south of Bohai Bay, geese are found in the inland wetlands and farmland habitats including Bohai Bay, and cranes and storks are found throughout Bohai Bay and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, said the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
To ensure the safe wintering of migratory birds, various regions have strengthened the protection and management of many important wintering sites, such as habitat restoration, restoration of edible plants for migratory birds, strict patrols and monitoring, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
Considering that long-distance migration would lead to physical exhaustion and weakened immunity of migratory birds, various regions have strengthened the monitoring of cluster waterbird epidemics in the early stages of overwintering, as well as daily monitoring and patrol of concentrated distribution areas, especially farmland habitats so as to prevent human interference and harm to migratory birds, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said.
