East China’s Jiangsu province has recorded an increasingly large number of new species due to the improving ecological environment.

Suzhou Industrial Park has released the latest biodiversity survey to reveal many new species along the banks of Jinji Lake, Dushu Lake, and Yangcheng Lake. In the central area of the Yangcheng Peninsula, flocks of wild ducks and white bone chickens were seen freely foraging and playing on the lake surface.

“The one with the highest attention should be the blue headed diving duck, which is a nationally protected animal and also known as the giant panda in the water. There are approximately 1500 of them worldwide. Secondly, the little swan was also observed during this observation,” said Xiang Wenyu, Deputy Director of the On-site Monitoring Department of the Suzhou Industrial Park Environmental Law Enforcement Brigade.

In addition to water birds such as the blue headed diving duck and the white eyed diving duck, aquatic plants such as the water raincoat and the stone dragon tail have also been discovered for the first time in wetlands such as Yangcheng Lake and Jinji Lake.

The Suzhou Industrial Park is located at a crucial point in the migration route of migratory birds from East Asia to Australia. During the autumn and winter seasons, citizens can see a large number and variety of migratory bird groups.

Photography enthusiasts in Nantong took photos on Kaisha Island of the Dawuli Hanjay, a rare bird that has not appeared in Nantong for nearly a decade. Photography enthusiasts have also taken photos of other rare birds on Kaisha Island, including the blue headed diving duck and black faced spoonbill.

“During the long journey, migratory birds need a place to rest and replenish their food. Some stay for a short period of time, some may stay there for a period of time, and of course, some wild ducks may winter locally,” said Wu Weimin, Secretary General of Nantong Love Bird Photography Association.

In Hongze District, Huai'an City, hundreds of white swans flew into the Huai River waterway, either leisurely, chasing and playing, or soaring in the air, creating a stunning ecological landscape.
