The 2023 Gaochun International Slow City Marathon began on Sunday morning in Gaochun District, Nanjing City. This year’s marathon, including mini runs, half marathons, and full marathons, is themed in romantic running in slow city to enjoy quiet Gaochun District.
The Gaochun International Slow City Marathon stipulates that the first person to reach the finish line are entitled to the taste of hairy crabs, so it is affectionately referred to as the "Crab Marathon" by marathon runners.
The organizing committee of the Gaochun Marathon optimized and upgraded the track by adding the Gucheng Lake embankment and Huashan Bridge to ensure that runners can enjoy the scenery of Gucheng Lake.
“This is my first time participating in the Gaochun Marathon. The scenery of the track is particularly beautiful, and passing through the Guchenghu Bridge is very comfortable. I exceeded my best performance in this competition by finishing the run in 75 minutes, and I am quite satisfied with the results. Running can encourage many people around us, including our parents, to participate in running and make them healthier, so I think this sport is quite meaningful,” said Jiang Xuewen, a half Marathon runner.
12000 people from 13 countries and regions participated in this year's Gaochun Marathon, including 2000 people for the full marathon, 6000 people for the half marathon, and 4000 people for the mini marathon.
Continuing the tradition of previous years, the organizing committee prepared 12000 crabs as prizes for the runners.
“In the past, upon finishing the running, I used to go home after eating some fruit and bread. This is the first time you can taste crabs after running a marathon. Crabs are good and fresh, especially plump and full,” said Xie Guifang, a half Marathon runner.
