The Museum of Traditional Chinese Opera was unveiled during the Hundred Drama Festival held in Kunshan on Tuesday to showcase 348 different genres of Chinese opera. Let’s take a close look.
The Museum of Traditional Chinese Opera is built according to the national level museum standards, with a total construction area of approximately 17000 square meters. The museum has various exhibition halls, public education and cultural and creative areas, integrating functions such as opera themed collection, display, teaching and research, and performance, comprehensively showcasing the development process of Chinese opera and 348 types of operas.
“In terms of form, the first is the feeling of the flowing water on the small bridge in the southern part of the Yangtze River amidst the misty rain. There is also the water sleeve of traditional Chinese opera, from the water sleeve of the bridge to the Gongchipu, and then to the space inside the traditional Chinese opera and various operas, ultimately forming a whole,” said Zhang Lei, Professor, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Nanjing University.
Kunshan has held 5 consecutive grand ceremonies for traditional Chinese operas. The Museum of Traditional Chinese Opera will launch interactive performances, intangible cultural heritage markets, and other activities to promote the interaction between traditional Chinese opera and the public, and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
