Jiangsu reports tourism upsurge in summer vacation

The tourism market in Jiangsu province saw an upsurge during the summer vacation with tourism consumption topping the country, according to market statistics released by the provincial department of culture and tourism.

From July 1st to August 31st, Jiangsu recorded a total tourism revenue of 260 billion yuan by receiving 180 million domestic and foreign tourists, up 13.4% and 5.3% from the same period in 2019.

According to statistical data from UnionPay Business, Jiangsu recorded a total summer cultural and tourism consumption of 92.7 billion yuan, an increase of 2.75% compared to the previous day, accounting for 9.14% of the total national cultural and tourism consumption, ranking first in the country.

Statistics show that the 140 cultural and museum venues in Jiangsu received a total of 13.1383 million tourists during the summer, an increase of 31.6% compared with the same period in 2019.

“We completed a sales plan for the whole year during the summer vacation this year, and the data from January to August showed a year-on-year growth rate of 174% compared to 2022”, Wang Zhenyu, Manager of Nanjing Tangshan International Tourism Research Department, said.

Intangible cultural heritage, suspense comedy, and trendy performances are highly sought after by audiences. During the summer vacation, Jiangsu sold 8237 cultural performances on the internet, with a total audience of 462000 and a box office of 262 million yuan in the performance market.

The 134 concerts held in Jiangsu promoted cultural and tourism consumption of over 230 million yuan in transportation, accommodation, and catering, demonstrating a strong consumer stimulus effect.

On Thursday, the Nanjing cultural and tourism department held a press conference on autumn parent-child study tour products and promotion of cultural and tourism in the Nanjing metropolitan area to promote high-quality cultural and tourism resources in the suburbs. More than 50 autumn parent-child study tour products cover themes such as ecological protection, humanities and arts, intangible cultural heritage inheritance, and cultural and museum exploration, to meet the needs of people of different age groups.

“We have released many tourism and sports products today, which are some of the more distinctive ones we launched in the autumn by moving from indoor to outdoor during the summer”, Han Fei, Director of Nanjing Tourism Image Promotion Center, said.
