Farmers in east China’s Jiangsu province are busy harvesting seafood and fruits as the summer is coming to an end.
On Sanshan Island of the Taihu Lake in Suzhou, there is a kind of summer specialty horse eye date that one is big on one end and small on the other end. Tourists were so happy to eat the horse eye date pumpkin porridge cooked on the firewood stove.
On Sanshan Island, after years of tourism development, the horse eye date picking tour has become the greatest attraction of the local tourism. The local tourism department has also developed a series of horse eye date derivatives such as fresh horse eye date, fruit wine and desserts to create new highlights in rural tourism with 3000 visitors getting aboard the island to pick the fresh fruit.
The ample rainfall this year is expected to boost the yield of the horse eye date to more than 50 tons.
“We have started picking horse eye dates and the picking will reach a peak by the 28th and last for about two weeks”, Shen Jidong, Deputy General Manager of Sanshan Tourism Development Company in Wuzhong District, Suzhou, said.
Since the beginning of autumn, Dafeng District in Yancheng City has ushered in a bountiful fishing season in the Yellow Sea. At the Doulong Port Fish Wharf, fishing boats were seen entering the dock to unload fish and crabs.
“Generally, we go fishing at sea for five or six days, capturing seafood including floor fish, swimming crabs, crucian carp, and bass, which can bring us a daily income of several hundred yuan, and we live a good life”, a fisherman said.
At the aquaculture base in Ganyu District, Lianyungang, farmers were busy catching white shrimp. Baskets of lively shrimp were quickly snapped up by buyers and shipped to various parts of the country as soon as possible.
“This truckload of shrimp will be shipped to Lu’an city of Anhui province. The quality of shrimp this year is very good. I load around 2000 kilograms in a freight truck and come here to purchase once a day”, Wan Xiaoxi, a wholesaler, said.
