East China’s Jiangsu province has made every effort to improve people’s life by upgrading and perfecting livelihood projects. Let’s take a close look.

At noon, at the newly renovated Xuhe Market in Suzhou High tech Zone, Ms. Li, a resident of Suzhou, was carrying meat, vegetables, and fruits after completing a weekend shopping spree.

The upgraded market has two floors, including the intermediate function "vegetable market" on the first floor, the peripheral "small commercial service supporting facilities", and the "home economics training base" on the second floor.

The large screen displays real-time market passenger flow, product prices, food safety testing and other data. The stalls in the market are connected to online operating systems, and residents can use mobile mini programs to select goods and place orders online. The goods will be delivered to the doorstep in less than 45 minutes.

“All merchants are brought online to increase the sales revenue of vendors in the vegetable market by at least 25% to 30%. Young people unwilling to go to the vegetable market can place orders on their phones”, Xu Haijun, Manager of Xuhe Market in Suzhou High-tech Zone, said.

This year, Suzhou plans to renovate and upgrade 80 farm markets. As of the end of June, 17 have been upgraded, 17 have completed the main project construction, and 18 have started construction.

Xuzhou started to offer free access to the newly-upgraded Hepingqiao Pocket Park. During the renovation process of the park, trees were used to create an open space, with the terrain as the base and ornamental flowers and plants as the characteristics to create a landscape space with a combination of trees, shrubs, and ground cover in the form of layered vegetation, creating a landscape feeling that embraces nature.

There are also multiple scenic spots in the park, such as stepped flower beds, wind and rain shaded corridors, and terrace gardens, to meet the needs of residents for nearby leisure activities.

“This was originally a ruin. After cleaning up the garbage, building this leisure place is quite beneficial for us, enabling parents to take children for a stroll, and elderly people to go for a stroll. The city has become beautiful, and people are pleased to have places to spend the leisure time”, Xue Yuejin, a citizen of Xuzhou, said.
