Xin Changxing, Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, met Tuesday in Nanjing with Ma Ying-jeou, a former chairman of the Kuomintang or KMT.

On behalf of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Xin extended warm greetings to Ma and the group of visitors from Taiwan who made Nanjing the first stop of their visit to the Chinese Mainland.

Xin pointed out that we highly appreciate Mr. Ma Ying-jeou's upholding the "1992 Consensus", opposing "Taiwan independence", and actively promoting cross-strait exchanges and peaceful development of the cross-strait relations. The CPC Provincial chief remarked that cherishing the memories of our ancestors is the fine tradition of the Chinese nation, and the glorious and splendid Chinese culture with a long history is our common spiritual affiliation, spiritual bond, and ancestral root. Right before the Tomb Sweeping Festival, as Mr. Ma returned to the mainland to offer sacrifices to his ancestors, we are willing to provide as much convenience as possible.

According to Xin Changxing, as a land of fish and rice since ancient times, Jiangsu is a powerhouse of economy, openness, science, education, and humanities and also one of the regions with the most intensive investment by Taiwanese businessmen on the mainland and the most active cross-strait exchanges. With many Taiwanese youth launching startups here, Jangsu is committed to creating a good development environment for Taiwan-funded enterprises, promoting youth exchanges and heart-to-heart exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, and making every effort to help Taiwan-funded enterprises overcome the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic for better development.

People on both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to the Chinese nation and share the same ancestors, said the CPC Provincial Secretary, adding that the common aspiration of the compatriots on both sides of the Straits is to join hands to pursue peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation. Xin expressed his hope to work together, move towards each other, and advance hand in hand to jointly promote peaceful development across the Straits and work together to achieve the reunification and rejuvenation of the nation.

Ma Ying-jeou thanked Jiangsu Province for its warm and thoughtful arrangements for this visit to the mainland and for the thoughtful considerations given to the Taiwan-funded enterprises and Taiwanese businessmen in Jiangsu over the years. He was quoted as saying that people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to the Chinese nation and share the same ancestors, and Taiwan and Jiangsu have forged closer ties in economic, trade, and cultural exchanges.

The Ex-KMT chairman also remarked that efforts will be made to adhere to the "1992 Consensus", deepen cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, promote youth exchanges, narrow the spiritual distance between compatriots on both sides of the Straits, and work together to improve the well-being of the compatriots.

Among the top leaders present at the meeting were Chen Yuanfeng, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Jiangsu probvincial leaders Hui Jianlin and Chu Yonghong, as well as members of the KMT delegation from Taiwan.
