The 2023 Global 6G Technology Conference opened in Nanjing on Thursday. Let's hear what the experts talk about the "super infrastructure" of the future digital world and how 6G technology can empower the digital transformation of the entire society.

Currently, 6G R&D has become a new focus in the international information technology field. Although there is no unified consensus on the 6G technical indicators and technical system, many international organizations, academic institutions, and well-known enterprises, including Southeast University, Purple Mountain Laboratories, have taken action and conducted forward-looking research. Purple Mountain Laboratories recently announced significant progress in 6G technology, achieving the world's fastest data transmission speed in the terahertz band.

"Using a new transmission architecture that integrates terahertz optical fibers, we have completed the world's first 6G photon terahertz 200Gbps real-time transmission and 1 Tbps offline transmission communication experiment, with a performance improvement of 20-100 times over 5G, creating the highest transmission record for terahertz wireless communication in the world," said Zhu Min, Project Leader Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Purple Mountain Laboratories.

The enthusiastic views of experts and scholars have brought more inspiration to 6G applications. Some experts say that super wireless broadband, ultra large-scale connectivity, extremely reliable communication, inclusive intelligent services, and communication awareness fusion will be the five major application scenarios for 6G communication.

Super wireless broadband will meet the requirements of immersive XR, synaesthesia interconnection, holographic communication, etc. Ultra large-scale connectivity will be applied to various devices in scenarios such as smart city, smart life, smart transportation, smart agriculture, and smart manufacturing. Typical applications for extremely reliable communication include robot collaboration, real-time interaction between unmanned aerial vehicles, fully functional autonomous driving, and telemedicine surgery.

"Nearly one hundred experts are here to collide and seek consensus. They are also pleased to see breakthroughs in 6G technology made by various countries. We hope that on this platform, we can pool global wisdom, achieve complementary advantages, collaborative innovation, resource sharing, and explore new models of global open cooperation," said Fu Jun, Deputy Secretary General of the Future Mobile Communication Forum.

Experts from Purple Mountain Laboratories said that they will continue to carry out 6G systematic research and development based on the latest development needs of 6G in the next step, and build an open and programmable 6G comprehensive experimental platform. At the same time, they will also establish a terahertz core device support system based on domestic mature process capabilities, and cooperate with leading enterprises to substantially promote the industrialization of results.
