The Standing Committee of the 14th Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress held its first meeting Monday in Nanjing. Xin Changxing, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Governor Xu Kunlin explained the case of personnel appointment and removal.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress Fan Jinlong, Wei Guoqiang, Qu Futian, Chen Xingying, Zhou Guangzhi, Zhang Baojuan and Secretary General Chen Jiangang.
Vice Governor Hu Guangjie, Procurator-General of the Provincial Procuratorate Shi Shitai, and heads of the Provincial Court and the Provincial Supervisory Commission also attended the meeting.
Xin Changxing asked the new session of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress to adhere to the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for A New Era, fully implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, thoroughly implement the Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thought on upholding and improving the system of the People's Congress, adhere to the Party’s leadership, earnestly exercise the legislative, supervisory, decision-making, appointment and removal powers conferred by the Constitution and laws, and develop whole-process people's democracy, continue to strengthen and improve the work of the People's Congress in the new era, and create a new situation for the work of the People's Congress at a new starting point.
He asked the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress to always adhere to the leadership of the Party, always keep in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee, and ensure that the work of the People's Congress always moves in the right direction.
He asked the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress to adhere to the principle of "people first" throughout the whole process, constantly enrich the practice of people's democracy in Jiangsu, and truly make the power entrusted by the people better serve the people to accelerate the formation of a local regulatory system that is compatible with the new practice of Chinese path to modernization in Jiangsu, comprehensively improve the level of legalization of all aspects of work in all fields, and contribute more wisdom and experience to better highlight the superiority of the people's congress system in Jiangsu.
The chairperson meeting of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress and the provincial government respectively submitted personnel appointment and removal proposals to the meeting. Xin Changxing and Xu Kunlin made explanations, and the nominees made respective speeches.
At the second plenary meeting, the Secretary-General and the heads of the provincial departments were appointed. Xin Changxing issued a letter of appointment to the appointees.
