The 124.2-kilometer Suqian Lianyungang waterway is located at the northernmost end of the trunk waterway network in Jiangsu, stretching from the east bank of the Suqian section of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to the intersection of the Gubo River and the Yanhe River.
In the 100.8-km waterway, 3 ship locks, 23 highway bridges, 1 railway bridge and 9 large-scale water conservancy supporting facilities will be reconstructed.

Suqian Lianyungang waterway is an important waterway in the hinterland of northern Jiangsu to connect Lianyungang Port and realize sea river combined transport. The important sea-bound waterway from Xuzhou and Suqian is planned to be open to navigation in 2025.

On Sunday morning, the construction of the Suqian Section of the Beijing Hangzhou Canal broke ground.The 110.16-km-long project includes bank protection, ecological improvement and restoration of slope protection, construction of navigation aids for sluice bridges, and emergency law enforcement. It is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024. the Suqian section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal will achieve efficient connectivity with Lianyungang Port, and thousand ton ships can directly reach Lianyungang port from the central urban area of Suqian.
