The "Overseas Friends of Suzhou Classical Gardens" Theme Exhibition kicked off in Keyuan Garden可园 recently to comprehensively display the development and achievements of Suzhou classical gardens abroad in the past decades.
Since 1980, more than 50 Suzhou-style classical gardens have been built in foreign countries. Many of them have received international awards, such as the Garden of Flowing Fragrance (Liu Fang Yuan), Lan Su Chinese Garden and the Chinese Scholar's Garden in the USA, Dr Sun Yat-sen Classical Chinese Garden in Canada, Suzhou-style Bonsai Garden in Singapore, and Jingyuan Garden in Malta.

In addition, through a series of activities including international symposia on gardens, online lectures, international cultural exchange weeks, and photographic exhibitions, Suzhou has shown Jiangnan (literally, south of the Yangtze River) culture to the world with its classical gardens serving as the bridge for exchanges.
Outstanding projects on the preservation and construction of Suzhou classical gardens have been recognized with global awards. The Suzhou Garden City conservation management project won the 2018 Asian Metropolitan Landscape Award, which is the highest honor for urban construction in Asia. The Suzhou Keyuan Garden Restoration Project won the Award of Distinction at the 2019 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. Suzhou Huqiu Wetland Park won the Outstanding Award of IFLA AAPME 2020 Awards.
