Construction on the Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing intercity railway got underway on Tuesday with groundbreaking ceremonies held in Qingpu New Town Railway Station of Shanghai, Suzhou South Railway Station of Jiangsu and Jiaxing South Railway Station of Zhejiang.
The 132-kilometer-long Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing Intercity Railway connects Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang by connecting Hongqiao Business District in the east, reaching Jiaxing South Station in the south, joining the Suzhou Intercity Railway Network via Suzhou South Station in the west and ending at Xiaoshan Airport, making it an important railway infrastructure in the integrated development demonstration zone of the Yangtze River Delta.
The Jiangsu section, with a total investment of about 24.08 billion yuan, is also known as the Water Town Tourism Line. The 65.6-kilometer-long section in Jiangsu passes through Lili Ancient Town, Tongli Ancient Town, Zhenze Ancient Town, Suzhou Bay, and East Taihu Lake with more than 20 tourist attractions dotted along the line.
The intercity railway also passes through many famous tourist attractions in Zhejiang such as Nanxun Ancient Town, Wuzhen Town of Tongxiang and Yanguan Ancient Town of Haining.
The Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing Intercity Railway will connect the Hongqiao Business District power core of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone, the Water Village Living Room, Wujiang High-tech Zone, and Jiaxing Science and Technology City to become the backbone of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone's external communication and an important link joining up Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
