East China’s Jiangsu province has made unremitting efforts to relieve the drought in the northern parts of the province where water level is below the designated mark though two rainfalls were reported recently.
In the Huai'an Fourth Pumping Station of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, except for one spare unit, the other three units have all been turned on and were running at full capacity to transfer water, with a total flow of 98.42 cubic meters per second.
In response to the current situation of flood control and drought relief, Jiangsu is fully implementing the south-north water diversion by diverting water to Hongze Lake from the Yangtze River in the east to strengthen water management.

The Provincial Department of Water Resources has dispatched 3 working groups to the areas along the Interior Canal and Lixia River, the surrounding areas of the Hongze Lake. Xuzhou and Lianyungang City, to guide local governments to strengthen water management.
As the drought in northern Jiangsu has been alleviated, the Jiangsu water conservancy department will continue to strengthen drought resistance, while making unremitting efforts to prevent the possible occurrence of floods by strengthening monitoring, forecasting and early warning so as to make full use of rainwater and floods to replenish the Hongze Lake.
