Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the provincial party committee and head of the Leading Group for Taiwan Affairs of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, called for further efforts to study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on Taiwan affairs work and the central conference on Taiwan affairs held in Beijing in mid-January.
Jiangsu made considerable progress and achievements in Taiwan affairs work last year, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Further efforts will be made on Taiwan affairs work by following the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the General Secretary’s important expositions on Taiwan affairs work, the statement said.
We must make targeted efforts to look at the changes in the Taiwan Strait, grasp the general historical trend, think in big pictures in the promotion of the work related to Taiwan affairs, and serve the overall situation of the central government’s Taiwan affairs work, said the statement.
It is important to give full play to the province’s unique advantages in the Taiwan affairs work and promoted the integrated industrial development between Jiangsu and Taiwan, according to the statement.
In the meantime, measures should be taken to promote the participation in the belt and road initiative and serve the new development paradigm, said the statement.
Further improvements should be made in business climate for Taiwanese-funded enterprises through the release of preferential policies, the statement said.
Efforts should be stepped up in the prevention and control of COVID-19, the alleviation of difficulties for Taiwanese-funded businesses and give better play to the role of the cross-straits entrepreneurs’ summit, the statement said.
At the central conference on Taiwan affairs held in Beijing on January 25, China's top political advisor Wang Yang called for efforts to promote peaceful and integrated development across the Taiwan Straits and to continue to advance progress toward the peaceful reunification of China.
While affirming the progress made in the work on Taiwan affairs last year under the complex situation across the Straits, Wang said there will be increasing uncertainty and instability in the situation as the world is undergoing great changes unseen in a century and a pandemic.
We need to strengthen our confidence and see clearly that the time and tide for complete reunification has always been on our side. At the same time, we need to have bottom-line thinking and be prepared to deal with various risks and challenges, he said.
The spirit of struggle should be advocated to resolutely deter "Taiwan independence" provocations and interference by foreign forces, he added.
Wang Yang called for policy improvements to share development opportunities and ensure enterprises and compatriots from Taiwan receive equal treatment, adding that measures should be taken to ensure people at the grassroots level and young people in Taiwan can conveniently participate in cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation.
