East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development set forth in this year’s government work report. JSBC has the story.
The first span of the continuous beam of the Jiangsu section of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway was closed on Saturday, marking the full turn of the substructure construction to the superstructure construction.
The first continuous beam of Helong spans the 80-meter-wide urban main road Jiangcheng Avenue.
Dozens of construction workers were fighting at night in the heavy snow, pouring concrete into the last 2-meter-wide Helong section.
The construction workers tried every means to ensure the quality of concrete construction in winter against the adversities of snow and cold.
During the Spring Festival holiday, more than 200 construction workers will stay at the construction site.

Our parents and children are looking forward
to us going home for a reunion
but in order to speed up the construction
of the Shanghai-Suhu-Hu Railway
we chose to stay at this construction site
and do our part for the railway construction
Hou Yuxiang, Manager of Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou Railway Station, China Railway 19th Bureau
After the on-site construction is completed
we wrapped the box girder with quilts
and steamed so as to ensure the normal
concrete construction in winter
and lay a good foundation
for the subsequent girder construction
The 163.5-kilometer Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway starts from Shanghai Hongqiao Station in the east, passes through Wujiang District of Suzhou, and ends at Zhejiang Huzhou Station in the west. It is the "backbone line" of the intercity rail transit network in the Yangtze River Delta and also the most representative project of the Yangtze River Delta Integration National Strategic Infrastructure Interconnection. The railway is slated for opening in 2024.
