East China’s Jiangsu province will take tougher measures to combat pollution in an all-round way by following the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and the General Secretary's important instructions on Jiangsu’s work, according to a provincial government executive meeting held on Tuesday. Governor Xu Kunlin presided over the meeting.
Xu Kunlin said that in the past year, Jiangsu has taken effective measures to strengthen the war on pollution with new steps taken in the adjustment of industrial structure, new improvement made in the governance capacity, best ever quality recorded in ecological environment so that the public has steadily improved their satisfaction with ecological environment and the people have continuously enhanced their sense of gain, happiness, and security in ecological environment, which has provided a strong footing for a good start of the 14th five-year plan.
He asked all regional governments and government departments at all levels in the province to be aware of the huge pressure on Jiangsu's ecological civilization, strengthen the war on water, air and soil pollution, strengthen the ecological protection of the Yangtze River, promote the restoration of the ecosystem, and enhance the supervision of ecological and environmental protection to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of the ecological environment, and take practical actions to welcome the convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
The Governor emphasized that efforts should be made to enhance political stance, gain a deep understanding of the decisive significance that the Party has established Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and defined the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core.
Xu Kunlin asked the province to strengthen the construction of ecological civilization in the process of economic construction, political construction, cultural construction and social construction, take the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction as the driving force, promote economic structure adjustment, transformation and upgrading, and strive to achieve synergy between economic development and environmental protection, and follow the path of high-quality development that is ecological, green, and low-carbon.
The governor demanded systematic improvement of the modernization level of the ecological environment governance system, speed up the construction of environmental infrastructure, increase investment in the ecological environment, strengthen scientific and technological research, continuously improve the ability of ecological environment governance, strengthen the investigation and management of latent dangers, and respond to environmental emergencies in a timely and effective manner so as to create a safe and stable social environment for stable economic development.
