East China’s Jiangsu province will invest heavily in the construction and upgrading of urban parking spaces to alleviate the shortage and to create more venues for charging electric vehicles, according to a document released by the provincial development and reform commission and the provincial department of housing and urban-rural development.
By 2025, Jiangsu will ensure a ratio of 1.2:1 or more for urban motor vehicle parking spaces and motor vehicle ownership .
The province will basically build an urban parking supply system with parking facilities as the mainstay, off-street public parking facilities as a supplement, and backed up by on-street parking spots to basically meet the parking needs of communities, hospitals, schools, and transportation hubs.
Jiangsu will also encourage qualified cities to speed up the implementation of urban renewal actions, and actively expand new parking facilities in combination with the renovation of old communities, old factories, old street blocks, old buildings, and civil air defense projects.
The underground smart parking lot of Nanjing Xuanwu Foreign Language School opened to the public in June last year.
Through the reconstruction and renewal of the original old teaching buildings and playgrounds, a parking lot with a total area of about 6,500 square meters has been built underground, with more than 400 parking spots where drivers can park and pick up their cars with one click.
Last year, Nanjing built a city-wide parking resource sharing platform and launched an app. By the end of 2021, various institutions and enterprises in Nanjing had opened more than 80 thousand parking spots.
In the meantime, Jiangsu will also improve parking equipment technology, support parking equipment manufacturing enterprises to strengthen independent innovation, and accelerate the application of ETC.
The Tianning Urban Shared Parking Lot in Changzhou City, which was built in December last year, is planned and constructed as a whole to open up parking spots in schools, governments, hotels and other places by providing a total of 1,220 parking spots.
According to the government work report delivered at this year's Provincial People's Congress, Jiangsu will add 100 thousand public parking spots this year by encouraging qualified enterprises and institutions to open parking spots.
