Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao University Cooperation Alliance was established at a ceremony held Thursday in Nanjing and Hong Kong simultaneously via video link. Wu Zhenglong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee,attended the meeting and delivered a speech at the main venue. Carrie Lam,Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,delivered a speech at the sub-venue.

Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education, delivered a speech via video link. Xu Kunlin, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor, attended the meeting. Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region, delivered a speech via video link on behalf of Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

On behalf of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government of the Communist Party of China, Wu Zhenglong congratulated the establishment of the alliance, and expressed his gratitude to the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Region Governments, the Ministry of Education, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government of China in the Hong Kong SAR, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government of China in the Macao SAR and 33 universities in the alliance.

He said that the establishment of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance is important for deepening the exchanges and cooperation in the education field of the three regions, giving full play to the advantages of all parties, better promoting the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and bearing great significance to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Wu Zhenglong pointed out that Jiangsu is thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinpings important instructions and the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, implementing the deployment of the 14th Provincial Party Congress by focusing on the new development stage, implementing the new development concept, constructing new development paradigm and promoting high-quality development.

Hong Kong and Macao are seizing major opportunities in the implementation of national strategies, continuously integrating into the overall national development situation, creating new development advantages, Wu said, adding that the cooperation will give a new impetus to the integration and development of Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao, and providing broad space and development opportunities for the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao university cooperation alliance.

The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee hoped that the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance will find the points of convergence with the development of the three regions, promote the organic connection of the talent chain, the industrial chain, and the innovation chain, and better serve the national strategy and the high-quality development of Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao.

Wu Zhenglong expressed the hope that the establishment of this university cooperation alliance will be a new opportunity to give further play to the role of various mechanisms and platforms, deepen cooperation in all aspects, wide areas and multiple levels, and promote the integrated development of Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao with more fruitful results, and jointly make greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Carrie Lam said that the establishment of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance has ushered in a new scenario in higher education exchanges and cooperation between the three regions. She hoped that the universities in the alliance will cooperate sincerely to create innovations in the whole chain of scientific research, explore new mechanisms for talent training, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, inherit excellent traditional culture, and further integrate and give play to the advantages of all parties in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, talent exchange, create more development opportunities for teachers and students in the three regions, and make contributions to the development of the country.

Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will continue to encourage universities to use the alliance platform for collaborative innovation, improve the level of cooperation, give full play to the advantages of Hong Kong's higher education, gear towards the country's "14th Five-Year Plan", and better serve the overall situation of the country's development.

Huai Jinpeng congratulated the establishment of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance. He said that Jiangsu is an important province in the Yangtze River Delta region, and Hong Kong and Macau are the two major central cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

He hopes that the universities in this alliance will focus on the overall situation, deepen cooperation, and face the future, promote the quality and efficiency of higher education in Jiangsu, Hong Kong and Macao, and contribute their wisdom to the overall development of the country, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

We must seize the historical opportunity for the high-quality development of education in the new era, jointly promote the coordinated development of higher education in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, and contribute to building a modern socialist education power and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, said Carrie Lam.

Lyu Jian, President of Nanjing University, Teng Jinguang, President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Song Yonghua, President of Macau University, also delivered speeches.

The Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance was initiated by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Office of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, and jointly initiated by Nanjing University in conjunction with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Macao, and Nanjing Normal University.
