Construction on the Southern Yangtze River Railway is in smooth progress as an eight-kilometer-long bridge is being constructed along the Gehu Lake in Changzhou city.
Gehu Lake is the second largest lake in southern Jiangsu after Lake Tai. It is a national protected species nature reserve for tassels, and also a first-class reserve water source in Changzhou.
The construction of a railway bridge spanning 8 kilometers across the lake must highlight the protection of the water environment to ensure that the transportation project is integrated with the natural ecology.
At present, the constructors are stepping up the construction of the last 69 steel structures of the Gehu Bridge to ensure that it will be completed on January 10 next year.
The South Yangtze River High-speed Railway is the second intercity railway between Shanghai and Nanjing. Upon its operation, the railway will connect Jurong, Jintan, Jiangyin and some other counties in the south of the province.
People in Zhangjiagang and Changshu will no longer need to detour around Jiangbei when traveling to Nanjing on a one-hour trip along the South Yangtze River High-speed Railway.
