The third meeting of the Jiangsu Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Development Fund Management Committee was held on Tuesday. Xu Kunlin, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor, presided over the meeting.

Xu Kunlin pointed out that the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and National Cultural Park is a major decision and deployment made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core.

Since the second meeting of the Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Development Foundation, Jiangsu has basically formed a fund layout system with baby funds with initial project investment results, continuously improved management mechanism, and the upgraded social impact, making them an important engine and strong support for the construction of the Grand Canal cultural belt and national cultural park.

Xu Kunlin requested that we must work hard to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and important instructions on Jiangsu’s work from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core so as to go all out to strengthen the protection, transmission and utilization of the Grand Canal’s culture.

The Acting Governor requested that targeted measures be taken to fully amplify the guidance and credit enhancement functions of government funds, give full play to the role of the government and the market, and use funds as a link to further expand investment and financing participants, broaden investment and financing channel models, and deepen investment and financing exchanges and cooperation, work together to build a multi-level, multi-channel, and diversified investment and financing system, and form a funding guarantee model that links provincial and local government funds to guide, encourage and drive the participation of various types of capital, and the integrated development of cultural and tourism resources.

Xu Kunlin required the formation of a differentiated combined project investment layout to cultivate characteristic market-oriented canal project boutiques, create a landmark leading canal culture logo, and strive to create good investment returns on the basis of ensuring the standardized management and high-level operation of the fund.

As the world’s longest man-made canal, the Grand Canal is a vast waterway system in the north-eastern and central-eastern plains of China, running from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south with a sizable section in Jiangsu from Xuzhou in the north to Suzhou in the south.

The canal was a pillar for the economy, social stability and government functions in ancient China by helping with the evolution of Chinese culture by enhancing communication between the south and the north.
