Academician Wang Jianguo of Southeast University and his research team won the first prize in architecture of the National Science and Technology Progress Award as China's top science award was given out on Wednesday. Jiangsu ranks foremost in the country with 39 general purpose projects honored with the top award.
The "Theory, Key Technology and Application of Multi-scale Protection of China's Urban Architectural Heritage" project completed by the team of Academician Wang Jianguo of Southeast University won the first prize of the country’s National Science and Technology Progress.
The project has established a theoretical model for the overall protection of urban architectural heritage, and created a design method of historical cities and local buildings that coexist with the old and the new, based on the major challenges and technical problems of how to protect the urban architectural heritage as a whole and scientifically.
This achievement has been applied to the protection of cultural heritages in 16 famous historical and cultural cities, 43 world cultural heritages and national key cultural relics protection sites, and 114 historical blocks, realizing a major leap in multi-scale protection of China's urban architectural heritage.
