Lou Qinjian, secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, published on Thursday an article titled "Repaying the general secretary's high hopes with a new harvest" to extend his greetings on the country’s 4th farmers’ harvest festival.
On the autumnal equinox one hundred years ago, the Communist Party of China, which was just two months old, established the first farmers’ association, Lou said in the article, adding that with the simple sentiment of "following the Communist Party", the farmers followed the Party’s instructions to become the backbone of the Chinese revolution.
We have achieved one harvest after another because of the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the system advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and our party's profound grasp of the historical logic and development laws of "agriculture, rural areas, and farmers" , said Lou Qinjian.
Jiangsu has made new progress in agricultural production and rural development, as is evidenced by the fact that its summer grains have been harvested for 18 consecutive years, and the output has reached a record high, the CPC provincial chief said in his article.
Lou Qinjian said scientific and technological progress has contributed 70% to the province’s agricultural production, as 65% of the farmland has been constructed into high-standard farmlands and 88% of the agricultural production has been mechanized.
The farmers in Jiangsu have continued to increase their incomes, improve their living conditions, Lou said, adding that 300 thousand farmers in northern Jiangsu have continued to improve their housing conditions, which are vivid manifestations of the great achievements of the Chinese Communist Party over the past century.
At present, China has embarked on a new journey of socialist modernization, the CPC provincial chief said, reiterating that revisiting and comprehending the General Secretary’s important instructions and taking the lead in realizing agricultural and rural modernization is a new glorious mission given to Jiangsu by the Party Central Committee.
We can only achieve this glory by striving for greater achievements and live up to this trust with a new harvest, Lou Qinjian said in his article.
He also called for efforts to strengthen scientific and technological guidance and industrial support, guarantee food security and ensure a stable supply of grains through the nation’s own efforts, accelerate the development of urban-rural integration, and promote the free flow of two-way resource elements, so that farmers and urban residents no longer have obvious identity boundaries, and there will be no longer a significant gap in the quality of urban and rural life.
He demanded that the relationship between efficiency and fairness be handled correctly, farmers' incomes should be continuously increased, and the income gap between urban and rural areas should be reduced, so that high-level income and high-quality services become the distinctive characteristics of Jiangsu's common prosperity.
