Shanghai Metro Line 17 west extension project has seen progress recently. As one of the 65 major projects of the Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone in 2021, the construction work on Xicen Station is proceeding smoothly.
According to Suzhou Wujiang Spatial Planning Implementation Program, Suzhou is planning to promote the construction of Suzhou Rail Transit Line 10 (phase I) and Line 14, and strive to connect Suzhou Rail Transit Line 10 to Shanghai Metro Line 17 (west extension section).
Upon completion, Line 17 will evolve into a key rail that strings together many core areas including Shanghai Hongqiao International Opening-up Hub, Qingpu New Town, Wujiang High-speed Rail Scientific Innovation New Town, etc. In addition, construction space is held in reserve for the line to continue to extend towards Jinze.
With a length of around 6.6 kilometers, the extended project starts from Oriental Green Land Station to Xicen Station. The extended rail is anticipated to be put into operation in 2023.

Compared with other means of transport, rail transit has more stations and provide greater convenience to passengers. The connection between the two cities’ rails is a good example for the increasingly deepening Shanghai-Suzhou Urban Integration.
