East China’s Jiangsu province reported improving ecological environment in the first half of the year with the PM2.5 concentration standing at 37 micrograms/m3, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%, the provincial office for pollution prevention and control said on Monday.
In the first half of this year, Jiangsu reported better ecological environment quality indicators than the same period last year.
The province reported a PM2.5 concentration of 37 micrograms/m3, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%.
84.8% of the river sections under the national monitoring scheme measured up to the Class III standard, up 4.3% from a year ago.
The average values of total phosphorus, total nitrogen concentration and lake algae density in the Taihu Lake decreased by 20.0%, 15.3% and 33.2% year-on-year.
In order to ensure the completion of the environmental quality objectives and tasks in the third quarter, Jiangsu will continue to strengthen the supervision of the main factors affecting environmental quality, urge local governments to implement environmental responsibilities, strengthen ozone pollution prevention and control, improve the ability to intercept pollution during flood seasons, and promote the inspection of sewage outlets in the Taihu Lake Basin.
