The city of Wuxi has turned to the Internet of Things technology to improve fire safety in old residential communities in the urban areas. Let’s take a close look.
Shuixiangyuan is a resettlement residential community housing 3014 families.
In the past, the residents charged their electric bicycles at home, posing fire hazard risks.
In order to eliminate fire hazards, the community has set up a centralized charging area for electric bicycles and installed 77 sets of open fire detectors.
Yang Yixin, Supervisor of Fire and Rescue Brigade of Wuxi Economic Development Zone
In the event of an open flame, this detector will sound an alarm within 7 meters, and the security guards nearby will come to check the scene and extinguish the fire immediately.
The community has also installed gas alarm shutoff valves in residents’ homes. The gas alarm cut-off valve will trigger an alarm in case the indoor gas leakage reaches a certain concentration. The system sends real-time data back to the backstage to immediately inform the nearest grid staff who will rush to the scene for timely disposal.
Xue Chao, Worker of Shuixiangyuan residential community authority
If the home owner is not home or there is no one in the house, after the alarm is sounded, our platform operation center will directly shut the gas valve, and then notify the owner. The home owner’s mobile terminal will also receive information pushes so that the owner can remotely close the gas valve through the mobile terminal
[voice over]An intelligent water pressure monitoring system is also installed in the community with all fire hydrants equipped with pressure monitors. Once the water pressure is low, an alarm will be triggered to ensure that water is available at the critical moment of fire fighting and rescue.
