East China’s Jiangsu province will promote to make its cities the showcase of the national campaign for innovation-oriented cities, according to a national conference held Saturday in Nanjing. Wang Zhigang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of Science and Technology, addressed the conference. Wu Zhenglong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor, delivered a speech.
Wang Zhigang spoke highly of the remarkable achievements made in the national campaign for innovation-oriented cities, adding that it is important to follow the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and carry out the policies and decisions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council so as to accurately understand the new development stage, act on the new development philosophy and accelerate the establishment of the new development paradigm, take the construction of innovation-oriented cities as a strategic support for achieving scientific and technological self-reliance and speeding up the construction of an innovative country and a science-based powerhouse.
He urged efforts to persist in technological innovation and institutional innovation, strengthen the top-level design and system planning of innovation-oriented city construction in the new era, promote high-quality development and improvement of social people’s livelihood through new measures, strengthen organization and leadership, and strive to create a complete and innovative governance system, a modern and innovative city with a strong development momentum and a clear innovative development path.
Noting that the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation are advancing by leaps and bounds, Wu Zhenglong said Jiangsu will follow the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and carry out the policies and decisions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council so as to accurately understand the new development stage, act on the new development philosophy and accelerate the establishment of the new development paradigm by holding on to the concept that technology is the primary productivity, talent is the primary resource and innovation is the primary momentum.
He called for greater efforts to implement the innovation-driven development strategy, strengthen original and leading technological innovation, strive to overcome the bottleneck of key core technologies, deepen the integration of the industrial chain and the innovation chain, and accelerate the construction of an industrial technology innovation center with global influence, an advanced manufacturing base with international competitiveness, and an open hub with global cohesive power.
He hoped that innovation-oriented cities will play a leading role in China's high-tech advancement, sustainable development and independent innovation by building innovative cities and regional innovation centers with a strong driving force, and striving to become a gathering place for technological innovation in the world's frontier fields of science and emerging industries, as well as global technological innovation elements.
