The city of Changzhou in east China’s Jiangsu province has made unremitting efforts to tackle environmental pollution for green development by turning wastes into useful resources under the province’s 263 action plan.

The Gardening Organics Treatment Center in Liyang County has used machines to smash dead branches and leaves and then soaking and ferment these bits by placing them in fungus, turning the waste into an organic substrate for improving the soil and making the soil more suitable for the growth of plants, trees and flowers.

One production line processes small litter and leaves into an organic substrate for improving soil, and the other production line processes thick tree trunks into colorful organic mulch, which can be laid on the soil surface around garden trees.

Liyang City has recycled about 2,000 tons of landscaping wastes produced each year.

According to our designed processing capacity

we can process 8 thousand tons

of garden waste every year

produce 6 thousand tons of organic substrates

and 2 thousand cubic meters of organic mulch

Waste incineration power generation is a common practice to treat domestic garbage, but the waste gas, waste water and waste residue generated in the process of garbage incineration may cause secondary pollution to the environment if it is not treated properly.

In April last year, Jiangsu Jinfeng Cement Group put into operation a solid waste incineration power generation project, which can process 600 tons of domestic waste per day and produce 240 thousand kWh of electricity for industrial use.

Since December 2019, Tianning District of Changzhou City has started to build a recycling system for recyclables of domestic garbage to come up with a closed-loop system of collection, transfer, and recycling of recyclables.

Every few days, Mr. Qin, a resident of Xinfengyuan Community, Tianning District, Changzhou City, puts the recyclables such as waste cartons into the smart recycling box for recyclables in the community.

there won’t be short weight

and the recycling is conducive for the environment

Garbage sorting has reached out to 99.4% of the urban districts and 90% of the rural areas in Changzhou. Waste incineration generated 162.31 million kWh of electricity in the first four months of this year.
