Recently, a joint experiment of cloning pigs using mixed somatic cells was successfully conducted by Huai'an Academy of Nanjing Agricultural University, Jiangsu General Animal Husbandry Station, Huai'an Agricultural and Rural Bureau, and Huaiyin Pig Farm with New Huai'an Breeds. 3 large white sow recipients smoothly delivered 14 black Suhuai piglets, including 8 boars and 6 sows. At present, these cloned piglets are all growing well.

Since January this year, the research team from Pig Research Institute of Nanjing Agricultural University has been trying to breed cloned pigs by somatic cell nuclear transfer. They have selected one male and one female of Suhuai pigs, as well as of pigs from high-yielding Taihu Lake basin, injecting their somatic cells derived from ear tissue into the oocyte with the nucleus removed to obtain reconstituted embryos, and then carrying out embryo transfer in order to get cloned piglets of two breeds and two sexes at one time. From 27 to 29 April, 14 Suhuai piglets were successfully born.
