An intelligent street car, the first of its kind in the Yangtze River Delta, officially started test runs in Suzhou.
As Suzhou Rail Transit (SRT) Line 4 was opened to traffic years ago, many locals and tourists chose to ride SRT trains to visit Tongli Ancient Town. However, the Line 4 Tongli Station is still some distance from the actual scenic spot.
The intelligent streetcar system, which just began its trial operation, may turn out to be a perfect solution to this problem.
The carriage is roomy inside and passengers can sit in comfort.
The intelligent streetcar has a very “high-tech” appearance.
The intelligent streetcar connects with SRT Line 4 in a seamless manner and provides great convenience for local residents and visitors to travel between SRT Tongli Station and Tongli Ancient Town.
“With a camera on the locomotive, the streetcar can automatically identify and follow the route. That is to say, the driver won’t have to control the direction when the car is running. This high-tech streetcar combines comfort with convenience.” said Zhao Mingsheng, GM Assistant and Head of Operation Department at Suzhou Zhigui Co., Ltd.
The first batch of intelligent street cars undergoing trial operation are composed of three carriages each. With a length of 31.64 kilometers, the streetcar can carry a maximum of 307 passengers and run at a highest speed of 70 kilometers per hour.
The 5.1-kilometer route covers five stations in total, i.e. Tongli Station (同里站), Huxindonglu Station (湖心东路站), Yunlilu Station (云梨路站), Damiaolu Station (大庙路站) and Tongli Ancient Town Station (同里古镇站).
Actually, Suzhou has put the driverless technology into widespread application.
Suzhou Rail Transit Line 5, the first driverless rail transit line in Jiangsu province, will be opened to traffic in June.
Driverless bus route has been put into operation in Suzhou High-speed Railway New Town, covering five stops and some ten crossroads.
As the driverless technology continues todevelop, our life will become more and more convenient.
