The China Institute of New Urbanization at Tsinghua University has released the Tsinghua Urban Health Behavior Index, a comprehensive evaluation report on the big data analysis of residents' health behavior based on the urban dimension.

The "Tsinghua City Health Behavior Index" is based on 2019 data to evaluate the health behavior of 80 major cities across the country, covering 550 million people in 27 provinces.

The report shows that the overall level of China's urban health behavior index is relatively good. The number of cities with medium level and above accounted for 78%. The overall level of health behavior in prefecture-level cities is similar to that of central cities.

In city rankings, Hangzhou ranks first, followed by Shanghai, Shenzhen, Yichang, and Wenzhou while Tongling, Taizhou, Mianyang, Jinhua, and Shaoxing are placed from the sixth to the tenth on the ranking.

The report shows that the proportion of obese people in northern cities is significantly higher than that in southern cities, as is evidenced by the fact that the proportion of obese people in cities in Northeast and North China is as high as 6%-8%.

Lack of sleep is obvious in southern cities and cities in southwest China are faced with arduous task of tobacco control.

The report also shows that the overall health awareness of residents in central cities is higher than that in prefecture-level cities.

The southeast coastal cities have relatively high levels of health awareness, with Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, and Tianjin among the top four. Citizens with higher income and education level have stronger health awareness.
