China recorded 1.5 trillion yuan of UnionPay online transactions from May 1 to 4, up 5.3% from last year and setting a record high, according to data from China Unionpay, a Chinese financial services corporation.
Online business operators recorded 4 trillion yuan of transactions during the first four days of the Labor Day holiday, averaging a daily increase of 45.5% year on year. Catering, hotel accommodation and shopping turned out to be the biggest spenders. Tibet, Guangxi and Hunan saw the fastest growth in the first four days, up 15% year on year. With an increasingly large number of tourists flocking to scenic areas during the holiday, rural tour saw the hottest growth momentum while Lijiang, Dali, Zhoushan, Xiamen, Jiaxing, Beihai, and Huangshan Mountain were the most sought-after destinations.
