East China’s Jiangsu province has reported sustained economic growth in the first quarter of this year to pave the way for the promotion of high quality development throughout the year, according to a provincial leadership meeting held on Sunday. Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, presided over the meeting.
Since the beginning of this year, facing the complex and severe domestic and foreign environment, Jiangsu has conscientiously implemented the important speeches and instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to Jiangsu, fully implemented the decisions of the Central Economic Work Conference, coordinated the advancement of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and taken a new step in high-quality development, according to a statement released after the meeting of the standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee.
In the first quarter, Jiangsu reported steady and improving economic growth with a year-on-year growth rate of 19.2%, higher than the national average, the statement said.
The sustained and healthy development of the real economy, the more coordinated regional development, and the continuous improvement of the quality of the ecological environment fully demonstrated the strong resilience and vitality of Jiangsu's economy, said the statement.
With the escalating COVID-19 epidemic around the world other than China, Jiangsu is faced with severe and complex external environment as is evidenced by the rapid rise in commodity prices, the unstable foundation for economic stability and recovery and the difficulties faced by some industries and small and micro enterprises, according to the statement.
Jiangsu is facing the arduous task of seeking progress while maintaining stability, building a solid foundation for high-quality development, and enhancing the ability to serve the country in building a new development pattern, the statement said.
The Party Central Committee and the State Council have attached great importance to the work of Jiangsu, which has injected strong impetus into the province’s economic and social development, said the statement.
Since last year, Jiangsu has won the victories of epidemic prevention and control, resumption of work and production, and flood prevention and drought relief while a number of major national strategies have been implemented, and the vitality of market entities has been actively restored and effectively stimulated, creating conditions for sustained economic recovery, structural optimization, and kinetic energy conversion, the statement said.
Efforts must be made to strengthen the foundation of high-quality development, promote the healthy development of the real economy, solve outstanding livelihood issues, coordinate development and safety, deepen supply-side structural reforms, promote reforms, system integration, technological innovation, and breakthroughs in upgrading the industrial chain, so as to keep a firm grip on development initiative, according to the statement.
