East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to achieve the social and economic development targets set forth in this year’s government work report.
Five bridges in the Yangzhou section of the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway were demolished as part of reconstruction and expansion of the highway.
The weight of the whole steel box girder reached 616 tons. This is the first case of demolishing a bridge by using modular jacking technology in the expressways of Jiangsu.
The expansion project will build the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway into a two-way 8-lane highway, upgrade the service areas, and add 5 interchanges.
The Beijing-Shanghai Expressway was completed and opened to traffic in 2000. With the rapid social and economic development in the past two decades, this expressway that connects China's north and south can hardly meet the transportation needs.
Since March last year, Jiangsu began the reconstruction and expansion of the expressway. The longest and largest-scale expressway reconstruction and expansion project in Jiangsu's history is expected to be completed in 2023.
