International Day for Monuments and Sites marked in Jiangsu

Apr. 18th marked the International Day for Monuments and Sites. Jiangsu province held a variety of rich and colorful performances of intangible cultural heritage to let the citizens and tourists feel the charm of historical sites and monuments.

 

The list of "Nanjing Ten Outstanding Historic Sites Protection Projects" was released Sunday. Nanjing Drum Tower repair and environmental renovation projects, repair projects of the Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen were both on the list. Over the past five years, Nanjing has completed more than 200 projects to protect historic sites. As the capital of the Eastern Wu Dynasty, Nanjing has a wealth of underground remains from Three Kingdoms period. "Exhibition of Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Tomb of Ding Feng Family of The Eastern Wu Dynasty " was also officially unveiled at the Oriental Metropolitan Museum at the same time.


More than 230 pieces of unearthed cultural relics were on display at the "Exhibition of Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Tomb of Dingfeng Family of the Eastern Wu Dynasty." Visitors could see an "Encyclopedia of Life" from Three Kingdoms period from the unearthed gold, silver, copper, iron, pottery, porcelain, lacquerware, etc. The Lianyungang Museum, the hometown of Xiang Wang in Suqian, and the ruins of ancient Temples in Changzhou also welcomed many tourists. All kinds of exhibits and historical sites impressed visitors with the historical civilization.


In Wu Cheng'en Former Residence Square, Huai'an, a wonderful local performance was staged. A Huai Opera performance from Journey to the West "Monkey Subdues White-Skeleton Demon " attracted many citizens and tourists to watch and enjoy. National Intangible Cultural Heritage shows in other parts of the province also attracted visitors from near and afar.
